Deleting your account
Settings → About → Delete account. Take a backup first — deletion is permanent and we can't undo it.
Settings → About → Delete account. It’s at the bottom, under Account Actions. If your subscription has lapsed and you’re looking at the locked screen instead, the same link is there too.
Before anything else, take your writing with you
The delete panel has a Take a backup first button, and it’s there because
you only get one chance to think of it. You get a .zip containing every entry
as plain text and every photo as a real image file — the same backup as
Download a backup.
Deletion is permanent. We can’t get it back for you afterwards, and neither can anyone else.
Cancel an App Store subscription first
If Apple bills you, deleting your account won’t stop that — only you can, in the App Store. Apple gives us no way to cancel on your behalf.
So Dayspring won’t delete your account while your App Store subscription is still set to renew. It says so, and gives you a button to manage it at Apple. Turn off renewal, then come back and delete. You keep the time you’ve already paid for; Apple simply won’t charge you again.
If Stripe bills you — you subscribed on the web or your Mac — you don’t need to do anything. Dayspring cancels it for you as part of the deletion.
Deleting
Type DELETE in the box and press Delete my account. Nothing happens until
you do; the button stays greyed out.
Then it’s done — immediately, not in seven days. You’re signed out, and the copy held on that device is scrubbed too.
What gets deleted
Your entries and your photos, and everything built from them — the Lamp, the Altar, the Ascent, your Concordance, your marks — and the account itself.
What we can’t delete
Apple and Stripe keep a record of payments you made. They’re required to, for tax and legal reasons, and they don’t give us a way to erase it. Those are billing records held by them, not your writing, and nothing in them is anything you wrote.
Dayspring itself keeps nothing after deletion — not your email, not a note that the account ever existed.
If something goes wrong
If Dayspring can’t cancel your Stripe subscription, or can’t reach Apple to check whether yours is still renewing, it stops and deletes nothing rather than leaving you paying for a journal that no longer exists. Try again in a few minutes; if it keeps failing, get in touch and we’ll sort it out.
