A photo won't upload

Size, connection, or format. The entry itself is never blocked by a stuck photo.

Check the size

The limit is 20 MB per image. Dayspring compresses large photos on your device first, so this is rarely the problem — but a raw file or a long screenshot of a whole web page can exceed it.

Check the connection

Photos upload in the background and retry by themselves. If you added one offline, it goes when you’re next connected with the app open.

The entry is readable the whole time. A photo that hasn’t finished uploading never blocks your writing.

Still stuck

  1. Give it a minute with the app open and connected — retries are automatic.
  2. Delete the photo from the entry and add it again.
  3. If it’s an unusual format, open it in Preview or Photos and export it as JPEG or PNG first.

What isn’t supported

Images only. Audio files, video and PDFs can’t be attached to an entry.

If you imported from Day One, that’s worth knowing: your photos came across, but audio recordings and PDFs didn’t.

Photos are in your backup

When you download a backup, the actual image files are in the zip. If a photo is showing in your entries, it’s safe.
