I signed in and my journal is empty

Almost certainly two accounts, not lost writing. Here's how to tell, and how to fix it.

Take a breath. This is the most common thing people write to us about, and in almost every case nothing has been lost.

What’s happened

Dayspring signs you in with Apple or with Google. Those are two different identities. If you used one the first time and the other the second time, you’re now looking at a second, brand-new account — which is, correctly, empty.

Apple’s Hide My Email makes this easier to hit. It gives us a relay address like x7k2p9@privaterelay.appleid.com instead of your real one, so there’s no way for us to see that it’s the same person as your Google sign-in.

The fix

  1. Sign out.
  2. Sign back in the way you did the first time — the other button.
  3. Your journal is there.

If you can’t remember which you used first, try the other one. There are only two.

Then stop it happening again

Once you’re in the right account: Settings → About, find your sign-in methods, and connect the other provider.

After that either button gets you to the same journal, and this can’t recur.

If both accounts have writing in them

That happens when someone writes for a while before noticing. Don’t delete either one.

Write to us and say so. Tell us both email addresses if you know them, or roughly when you started each. We’ll merge them into one account with everything intact.

If your subscription is on the wrong one

Also fixable, and also something to tell us about. An Apple subscription can only entitle one account, so it needs moving rather than re-buying — don’t subscribe a second time.
